Live Kidney Donor
Every year, hundreds of patients die waiting for a kidney transplant due to a shortage of organ donors, with a waiting time for a suitable (deceased) donor organ that might reach several years, particularly for some ethnic groups. Living kidney donation offers the recipient the best opportunity of success in terms of definitive renal replacement therapy, with superior survival compared to deceased donor kidneys, and the possibility to preemptively address renal replacement therapy without facing the burden of dialysis.
This Transplant Live module aims to provide an overview of the current state of the art in live kidney donation, as well as representing a useful resource for those willing to learn the technical and logistical aspects.
As part of the Module, the operations recorded during the Live Donor Nephrectomy (LiDo) course, an ESOT Hands on course, are hosted, to really represent “Transplant Live”. The course is held every year at the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
In order to qualify for the
European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education
(EACCME®) credits, you are expected to complete the EACCME Self-assessment. You will find this assessment under the tab "EACCME Self-Assessment" in each module. After you have made the assessment, you will receive the certificate by email. Although recommended for further educational development, if you do not wish to collect EACCME® credits, please note that none of the quizzes are compulsory. You may freely navigate the course in any order at your leisure.
